Hello! Welcome to Topdog Training, Ireland’s leading dog trainer & behaviourist. I’m Henry and I’ve been training dogs worldwide for over 40 years. I provide veterinarian recommended obedience training & behaviour modification which takes place in your home & out on your usual walk. My training is always tailored to meet your puppy, adult dog or rescue dog’s needs.
Once you live in Dublin, Meath, Louth, Monaghan, Cavan, Wicklow, Kildare, Laois, Westmeath, Offaly, Kilkenny, Wexford, Tipperary, Roscommon, Leitrim, Longford, Sligo, Waterford, Galway, Mayo, Limerick, Clare and Carlow then I will travel to you with training taking place wherever you are having issues for example in your home and/or out on your usual walk.
If you live outside these Counties and would like my help, then we can also arrange to meet in one of the counties I cover with the training session taking place in a park or town setting.
The earlier you start to train your dog the better but it is never too late, the saying ”it’s like trying to teach an old dog new tricks” is just that, a saying. Once your dog is fit and healthy, they can be trained.
Dogs Behavioural problems often cause an owner to feel they must give up their pet. Problems can range from submissive urination to dangerous aggression, from destructiveness to disobedience, from too active and playful to ignoring you completely. Identifying exactly what is the cause of the problem is usually half the battle.

Henry was very patient and listened to all our issues, he immediately started working with Rolo using really straight forward techniques. By the end of the session we already had a calmer better behaved dog. He hasn’t tried to rob our food since!
The techniques are very easy to implement and now when a new issue pops up we know what to do to work on changing it. Henry is very professional and you can tell he has so much experience working with dogs.
Since the session, he has been on hand for any questions or follow ups we’ve had. Would highly recommend TopdogTraining.ie to anyone looking for a trainer that will work 👍🏻

For a dog that was very focused on her tail she's stopped completely, a simple word if she attempts to chase it and it's forgotten. She's a great dog but as she gets bigger and stronger we wanted to be aware of the mistakes we were making and having Henry here to train us gave us the confidence in our own abilities to guide her to be a calm family dog inside the home.
She's loving the recall training we only have to say a word and we have her undivided attention. I couldn't recommend Henry enough for the guidance and expertise he shared with us and knowing that he's at the end of the phone should we need him again is reassuring. He has changed a lot of naughty puppy behaviour over the course of two hours and I feel like I can start to get back to how I used to live pre pup. I have doormats again, the tea towel can hang over the oven handle and not end up in the garden and I can put my coat on like a normal human without fear of it being chewed. I have even been out of the house and the pup seems to have left everything that I want him to leave alone.
Most importantly tho I feel like I have the tools to continue to correct anything we didn’t get time to cover, or that I forgot about while Henry was here. I feel a lot more relaxed and calmer because of that which also makes for a much more relaxed and calmer pup.
Absolutely worth every penny for a novice pup owner! The fact that I also have Henry on my team now if there are any issues going forward just makes it even better. Thank you Henry!!

During The 1-1 Dog Behaviour Session We

Setting Boundaries
I usually find the root cause of behavioural problems in dogs is down to incorrect training. I believe a dog needs to have boundaries set.
This is where behaviour training comes in. A Specialised 1-1 Private Training Session coupled with correct obedience training is usually the starting point at changing your dogs inappropriate behaviour, followed by a change in thinking of the owners.
You will be shown how to implement the newly taught commands and the correct way to interact with your dog.
You will then be given written instruction on how to modify your dogs behaviour at home, usually with both these
(the obedience and your knowledge of dog pack behaviour) your dog will calm down and become a valued member of your family once more.
We are normally able to change the behaviour of most dogs including those whose owners think the only way out is either a trip to the dog pound or the vets.
We have trained dogs who have bitten their owners, bitten friends and relations and who are basically out of control as well as dogs who have mild to serious dog aggression.
We have also trained nuisance barkers, dogs who destroy the house when left alone and dogs with other separation anxiety issues, we are happy to say that with our training techniques we have managed to help most.
